一.end用作動(dòng)詞

　　1.end用作動(dòng)詞的基本意思是“結(jié)束”,通常指某一發(fā)展過(guò)程的最終結(jié)束。

　　2.end既可用作及物動(dòng)詞,也可用作不及物動(dòng)詞。

　�。�1）在用作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),常常與介詞或副詞構(gòu)成短語(yǔ);

　　How does the story end?故事結(jié)局如何?

　　Everything ended happily.結(jié)果是皆大歡喜。

　�。�2）用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),通常接名詞或代詞作賓語(yǔ)�？捎糜诒粍�(dòng)結(jié)構(gòu)。

　　Something must be done to end the strike.

　　必須采取某種措施來(lái)結(jié)束這次罷工。

　　Let's end our quarrel.

　　我們不要再吵了。

　　3.end后�？山痈痹~以加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣。end up后可接“as+名詞”、形容詞、現(xiàn)在分詞、過(guò)去分詞和介詞短語(yǔ)。

　　二.end用作名詞

　　1.end的基本意思是“最后部分”“末尾”,引申可表示“端”“盡頭”“梢”“終止”“死去”等。

　　2.end還可作“目的”解,是可數(shù)名詞,說(shuō)“達(dá)到目的”時(shí)�？膳caccomplish, achieve, attain,

　　3.compass, gain, obtain, reach, secure, win等動(dòng)詞連用。end作“結(jié)局”“結(jié)果”解時(shí)可加不定冠詞。

　　4.at the end 在…的末尾

　　Owing to a long delay on the journey, he did not arrive until the meeting was at the end.

　　由于旅途耽擱時(shí)間很長(zhǎng),直到會(huì)議結(jié)束他才趕到。

　　He went on spending lavishly until his money was at the end.

　　他繼續(xù)揮霍無(wú)度,直到把錢用光為止。
