在用法上：a lot既可以作副詞性短語，修飾動詞又可以作名詞短語，加動詞不定式作后置定語；而后面六個短語都是形容詞性短語，修飾的是名詞。

　　例句：There is a lot to see. （a lot在此作名詞短語）

　　翻譯：這有許多可看的。

　　例句：It rains a lot. （a lot在此作副詞短語）

　　翻譯：這經(jīng)常下雨。

　　2、a lot of和lots of對比來看，它們的意思都是“大量的”，都可修飾不可數(shù)名詞和可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)。但是一般而言，a lot of更正式一點(diǎn)，而lots of偏口語化。

　　例句：There are a lot of/lots of ducks.

　　翻譯：這兒有很多鴨子。

　　3、many和much對比來看，雖然它們的意思相同，都是“大量的”，但它們用法不同。Many修飾可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)，而much修飾不可數(shù)名詞。

　　例句：You made many mistakes.

　　翻譯：你犯了許多錯。

　　例句：I don't have much money with me.

　　翻譯：我沒帶多少錢。

　　4、numerous 和a great deal of 對比來看，numerous修飾單數(shù)集合名詞，而a great deal of 修飾不可數(shù)名詞。

　　例句：He has been late on numerous occasions.

　　翻譯：他已經(jīng)遲到過無數(shù)次了。

　　例句：They gave me a great deal of encouragement

　　他們給了我很多鼓勵。

　　5、在能修飾可數(shù)名詞的幾個詞里，a lot of/lots of可以修飾不可數(shù)名詞，而many只能修飾可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)，另外，many還通常用于否定句、疑問句。
