      Dear Colleagues:

As the tutor for Miss Furnival Han in writing her undergraduate thesis, I greatly appreciate her for her solid grounding professional knowledge. I found it my duty to recommend her for further studies abroad when she asked me to do her the favor.

I began to know Miss Han when I received a commendatory letter from a privately-run school. Our department has all along organized student service programs in a community. Her class was engaged in a mutual aid program at a private school, and Miss Han played a vital role in the program. First of all it was her sincere attitude that won her class the honor of serving in the program out of many class collectives. As the program organizer, Miss Han did much investigation work prior to the inauguration of the program. For example, sheacquired information from the college leadership in advance and distributed the workload according to practical conditions (dividing the class into different groups according to age and according to study capacities)。 The program was carried out in proper order and yielded good effects, winning unanimous good comments from both the college leadership and the community.

Besides, Miss Han‘s leadership capacity is also worth mentioning. She began to assume the post of a study committee member when she was a third-year student. Her gifted affinity and personal charms soon won her the credit from her classmates. In less than in semester, her class leapt from the last to the top of all classes in the same grade in terms of academic records and style of study. Thanks to its outstanding performance, the class was appraised as the top best in study style in the whole college. Sure enough, extracurricularmanagement and organizing took up much of her time, but she made proper arrangements so that she was among the best in her academic performance in her class and she was excellent in GPA specialty above all.

When writing her Bachelor Degree thesis she told me she was greatly interested in the studies on Thomas Hardy (1840 - 1926)。 I was really shocked when she asked me the startling question whether on earth Hardy was a fatalist or not. This was because few students would ever think of raising such an in-depth question at that time. So I encouraged her to probe deeper into the question. In between she thumbed through many works by and about the English novelist and poet. This embraced some highly sophisticated contents that taxedgreat comprehension efforts. But in defiance of all difficulties she finished reading a dozen of very difficult books, jotting down detailed notes in the meanwhile. Encountering hard nuts to crack, she would ask for instructions modestly and I was only too glad to probe deep with her because it was always so pleasant to communicate with her. Her optimism makes her very agreeable and affectionate to others. The strict logic and acumen of thought made the process of thesis preparations in good order. Although she graduated several years ago,she shows great respect for her teachers and comes to visit me from time to time. I also like this student very much.

Due to limitations of research conditions in China today, I am very eager that an excellent student like her may have the chance to study abroad and make contribution to future researches in China.

      To: Graduate Admissions Committee

It is my pleasure to write on behalf of Jane Student, who is applying to the PhD program in Research Psychology at Major University. I have interacted with Jane in several contexts: as student, as teaching assistant, and as thesis mentee.

I first met Jane in 2008, when she enrolled in my introductory Psychology class. Jane immediately stood out from the crowd, even as a first semester freshman. Just a few months out of high school, Jane demonstrated characteristics commonly held by the best college students. She was attentive in class, prepared, submitted well-written and thoughtful assignments, and participated in meaningful ways, such as by debating other students.

Throughout, Jane modeled critical thinking skills. Needless to say, Jane earned one of five A’s awarded in that class of 75 students. Since her first semester in college Jane has enrolled in six of my classes. She demonstrated similar competencies, and her skills grew with each semester. Most striking is her ability to tackle challenging material with enthusiasm and endurance.

I teach a required course in Statistics that, as rumor has it, most students dread. Students’ fears of statistics is legendary across institutions, but Jane wasn’t fazed. As usual she was prepared for class, completed all assignments, and attended help sessions conducted by my teaching assistant. My teaching assistant reported that Jane seemed to learn concepts quickly, learning how to solve problems well before the other students. When placed in group work sessions, Jane easily adopted a leadership role, helping her peers learn how to solve problems on their own. It was these competencies that led me to offer Jane a position as teaching assistant for my statistics class.

As teaching assistant, Jane strengthened many of the skills I have articulated. In this position Jane held review sessions and offered out-of-class assistance to students. She also lectured in class several times during the semester. Her first lecture was a bit shaky. She clearly knew the concepts but had difficulty keeping pace with PowerPoint slides. When she abandoned the slides and worked off the blackboard, she improved. She was able to answer students questions and the two that she couldn’t answer she admitted to and said she’d get back to them. As a first lecture, she was very good. Most important to a career in academics, is that she improved in subsequent lectures. Leadership, humility, the ability to see areas in need of improvement, and the willingness to do the work needed to improve – these are all characteristics we value in academia.

Most important to a career in academics is research competence. As I have explained, Jane has an excellent grasp of statistics and other skills critical to a successful career in research, such as tenacity and excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. As mentor of her senior thesis, I witnessed Jane in her first independent research efforts. Similar to other students, Jane struggled with finding an appropriate topic. Unlike other students, she conducted mini literature reviews on potential topics and discussed her ideas with a sophistication that is unusual for undergraduates. After methodical study, she chose a topic that fits her academic goals. Jane’s project examined xxx]. Her project earned a department award, university award, and was presented as a paper at a regional psychology association.

In closing, I believe that Jane student has the capacity to excel at X and in a career as a research psychologist. She is one of a small handful of student that I have encountered I my 16 years teaching undergraduates that has this ability. Please do not hesitate to contact me with further questions.

      Dear,

"I first knew X in the spring of l986 when she was a member of my Freshman Seminar, &apos. . . .` In such small groups teacher and students come to know one another in a way that is seldom, if ever, possible in large lecture courses. In either forum something can be learned about a student&aposs academic ability, but only in the former can one get a reliable measure of the student as a person. . . . Having kept in touch with X in the intervening years, I am confident in my knowledge of her.

To begin with, she is an excellent student, with a lively curiosity that makes her dissatisfied with superficial explanations. That curiosity frequently led our seminar down avenues and into areas that, otherwise, would have remained unexplored. . . .

One has only to speak to her to recognize her openness and eagerness. It is easy to mistake this for naivete, an error I made when she first told me she had signed up to be an apprentice teacher in one of Boston&aposs more notorious inner city high schools. . . . Throughout the term, often at great cost to her own peace of mind, and sometimes in explicit conflict with the regular teacher, she continued to insist on a high level of performance from her students. She not only survived the term but won the admiration and respect of students accustomed to being patronized by teachers content to believe that nothing much can be expected.

I would expect X to bring these same qualities of character to . . . . That is, an openness to new places, peoples, cultures and customs; a keen intelligence, with which to analyze and order her experience; irrepressible curiosity; and an unusual ability for dealing with people of all ages and conditions. Those qualities, combined with her toughness of character. . ., will enable her to understand and empathize with others while never losing touch with who she is."

      Dear,

I am President of College of Public Health of Shanghai Medical University, one of the most prestigious medical schools in China. Having been a teacher of Health Statistics in Miss Marva Han‘s class,I have known her since 1992. Through yearscontact,I have gained a profound understanding of her. She has proved herself to be a student of unusual talent and personal charm. Thus I regard it as a personal honor to recommand such a promising young woman to study in your Graduate School.

She was one of the Top 10 students in her home city when entering our university in the year of 1992. But she has never rested on the laurel of her superb college entrance examinations scores. Thanks to her and uring diligence and effective studying habit, she had been a scholarship winner all through the four college years. She was an efficient student, apt to gain the best results within the least time. Her GRE scores can explicitly prove this. Whats more, her comprehension and analytical abilities had also given me with very deep impression. She could usually bring up thought-provoking questions and constructive suggestions by applying a series of logical reasoning methods such as induction and deduction in her complex reasoning process. All these talents had made her conspicuously outstanding among her peers.

Her graduation thesis Acrilonitriles Toxic Effect on Cytomembrane of Erythrocyte was named First Class Paper by the papers evaluation team for her unique selection of thesis topic, meticulous observations and explicit exposition. Her thesis subject belongs to the domain of environmental toxicology, which has significant guidance to practical applications. This prize-winning thesis cost her four months hard work and had well demonstrated her aptitude to be a conscientious researcher. She was always trying her best to keep abreast with the latest development of her field by all means, for example, she actively attended academic conferences of all sorts such as "Modern Professional Medical Development and Problems",etc, which also had deeply impressed me.

With her solid academic foundation, conscientious studying and research attitude and many yearsworking experience, along with her good English communicating ability, she has fully prepared herself to be a qualified applicant for a higher level of study and research of her field. I am confident enough to assert that her personal qualities under your famous teaching and research environment will enable this promising young woman to give this world her best performance.

In the and of my letter,Id like to say it‘s an honor to recomm and such a promising student to study in your prestigious university, and your positive evaluation would be appreciated.

      Dear,

At the request of University of Denver, my student in Zhengzhou 19th HighSchool, I’m providing this reference, which I hope can be useful for you toreview her application to your undergraduate program.

I have been the Chinese teacher and class director in Zhengzhou 19th HighSchool for more than ten years. We are one of the most famous and high-quality high schools in the whole city, the faculties in our school are all renowned andhighly-experienced. Though I’m relatively young in the school, I have lots of experience in Chinese teaching and student managing. I have been titled theoutstanding young teacher and class-director by school and city.

Yadi Wang came to my class in September 2019, the semester she entered ourschool. I know she is talent in music. She used to performance flute in our school activities, such as in talent show. In 2019, she passed the high leveltest of FLUTE LEVEL 8. She loves music that is all her classmates and school teachers know.

YADI WANG had special leadership and friendship in my class. Once we were about to take part in our school’s drama festival. We were supposed to play a Chinese traditional drama –BAIMAONU. I analyzed some key plots and roles of this drama to my students, and then left all the other works to their own. YADI WANG was in charge of the directing and casting. It was not an easy job as it may sound. The enthusiasm made everybody ask for the leading roles, but no one was willing to take these minor ones. So YADI WANG decided to run an audition. Combined the performance in the audition and students’ actual characteristics,YADI WANG assigned everyone the most suitable role. And then, she divided thecrew into several groups. Different groups rehearsed in different places at the same time. And the leading actors were the strings to connect these groups into a collectivity. Through this way, it saved lots of time, which was the scarcest thing to middle school students, to get everybody into his role. And before the final performance, she just needed to call all the actors together for a preview for once or twice. She has done even better than I had expected.

Another time was in a seminar, we ran a debate competition about teacher’s professional ethics. YADI WANG was the leading debater of the con side. During the debate, she showed her wide knowledge and eloquence. She used lots of proverbs, history figures and examples to support her stand, and every word of her was incisive to get to the point, and also full of humors. Her performance won both her teammates and opponents’ admiration. Her positivity and versatility also can be found in many other aspects. She is ours school’s famous piano player who is always invited to play in many occasions. She knows the traditional skill of calligraphy writing, which she has been practicing from very small. During weekends or vacations, the “Holiday Working Team” she leads can always be found doing many community services.

Normally, in order to get more students to participate in class’s management, the student cadre will change every semester or two, by student vote. But YadiWang has won all the elections by now, so she continued to be the monitor from the beginning of our class to today, and very likely to the graduation. All her classmates have approbated her ability, characteristics and performance. She is already a model in the class.

In this reference, I didn’t mention much about Yadi Wang’s grade, which I believe you can easily find was so outstanding from her transcripts and her ranking (25th out of 1560 students), because I’d like to give you something that you cannot find from these documents but I think is equally important to contribute to her excellence. I do hope, according to my recommendation, youcould give her a favorable review. Thank you! Please feel free to contact me.

        Sincerely Yours

      Dear Colleagues:

As a teacher in Department of Biology, Nankai University, a leading university in China, I am very pleased to take this opportunity to recommend oneof my favorite students to your PhD program.

In September, 2019, Miss Zhang was my students in General Biology, the first professional course they take in the field. She likes it very much. I teach her in an open and interactive manner, she is active and passionate about answering class questions. Miss Zhang is bright, energetic and enthusiastic girl who loves speaking out her own ideas. She never escapes from those points of which she is skeptical. Apart from that, she often puts forward her ideas upon questions and exchanges all of her innovate ideas with me after class. Upon ending of General Biology course, I asked my students to write an essay upon their understanding of biology. I discovered Miss Zhang’s essay was so impressive and persuasive; her careful essay comes from dozens of references

to Biology literatures. In essay Miss Zhang stretched out her creative thinkingupon status quo of biological research and branches in the field of biology. All of this speaks to her creative and logical and scientific thinking capability. Iam gladly to say that Miss Zhang has a clear understanding about General

Biology, that comprehension has been reflected fully in her essay. ThereforeMiss Zhang got a full point for her essay in her class, and other students tookit as model essay for granted.

I believe Miss Zhang’s industriousness, passion and dedication will makeher an ideal candidate you are seeking for your program, so I highly recommend her without any hesitation to you. And I will greatly appreciate it if you couldaccept her into your program.

        Sincerely yours,Prof. xxx

      To whom it may concern,

As the advisor of Miss xxx, I am very pleased to write this letter of recommendation in support of her application for admission in your school.

I knew Miss x about one year ago when she started being an undergraduate research assistant with a PhD student in my lab. Since then, I have been supervising her on a research project entitled Synthesis and photo-luminescence of porphyrins. In xx University, these opportunities are only provided to students who gain significant academic success and show great passion on chemistry。During the years in my lab, she was mainly responsible for literature search, synthesis experiments conducting and products analysis. At first, she was unfamiliar with the project and lacked some skills of such advanced chemistry experiment. But I found that as soon as she was assigned this task, she began to study assiduously for relevant knowledge and read many references. Thus she mastered the skill of the experiment in a short time and made contribution to the whole project.

The deepest impression she gave me was that she had her own ideas and always have a lot of questions unlike the others who just followed the textbook instructions. Miss x often came up with new ideas to improve the experimental methods. I also saw her notebook, it is surprising that she recorded so carefully that many details especially success or fails experience and reasons are all kept in it. Such strictness and seriousness characters are valuable to an undergraduate student.

As to her personality, I would like to say Miss x is an easy-going, honest and upright student. She cooperated with the PhD student well and is always ready to help others. I think Miss x is full of research potential for exploring new knowledge and I believe all these decent characters and personalities will benefit her a lot on her way to success. That is why I also would like to supervise her graduation dissertation. I personally prefer to give her further instructions on her studies. But as an advisor caring about and understanding of her, I prefer to respect her strong passion for studying abroad. Therefore, I recommend her most enthusiastically. Please feel free to contact me if I can answer any additional questions about her.

        Yours faithfully,

        xxx

        美國研究生推薦信 10

      Dear,

Through my teaching experiences in these years, Miss x is one of the brightest students whom I have met. I taught her the core courses of Fine Organic Synthesis one year ago. I am extremely impressed by her professional qualities and research abilities. Therefore, I recommend her without doubt to study in your university.

In the class I taught, Miss x was always the most active student. Unlike most other students, she always discussed with me, and was extremely courageous to challenge authoritative academic concepts, questioning the textbook materials from some original and creative thinking perspective. Through our talk, I found that Miss x has super high academic savvy and excellent knowledge framework. She showed great interests in the subject and worked very hard in the course. As you know, our department is the leading chemical engineering department in China, and the competition within is very fierce. However, her hard work had been reward. She got high marks in the final exam and ranked 5 out of 52 in the class in GPA.

Not only was Miss x good at academic performance, but also had she a strong enthusiasm to put her analytical skills into research. I ever assigned a task to my students about searching the detailed scheme of some complicated synthesis and composed essays about them. It is a cooperative work. To my delight, she searched the most difficult step of the synthesis her group chose, and she went for it with all her efforts and in high spirits. It was not an easy stuff that her essay was not excellent enough at first. But she refused to admit defeat and asked me to give her more time. The persons I knew were not short of the outstanding ability. But few of them had the ability like Miss x. She faced the difficulty bravely and accepted the challenge. In the final essay, her outstanding performance was shown and she got full marks. That she took every means to make larger progress had left me deep impression. Due to her strong interest, I also recommended her to listen to reports of graduate students in my lab.

For such an excellent student of x, I have every reason to believe that she will accomplish even greater achievements in your university, so I sincerely hope that your university will favorably consider her application.

        Yours faithfully,

        xxxx
